Collecting Senior Quotes & Baby Photos

🗓️ Before Class: Teacher Prep

🖥️ Slide Deck (project or share with students)

Short, on-the-board pacing slides for today's Do Now, agenda, vocabulary, and exit ticket -- the full detail lives in the handout above, not here.

🧑‍🏫 Substitute Teacher Guide

A scripted, step-by-step runsheet for today's class -- hand this to anyone covering the room who doesn't know the daily routine.

This is a community project

Unlike a solo studio project, the yearbook only works if the whole class communicates, follows through on assigned sections, and treats classmates as teammates rather than competitors. Build in real check-ins, not just a due date.

🎯 Essential Question

📈 Learning Objectives

By the end of this lesson (2 Days), students will be able to:

  1. Follow up directly with classmates who haven't submitted a senior quote or baby photo yet.
  2. Update the tracking spreadsheet accurately as new submissions come in.
  3. Flag and escalate to the teacher any submissions with a missing consent or inappropriate content.

📐 Standards Alignment

CDOS (Career Development & Occupational Studies)

Industry Standards (CCTC)

📚 Key Vocabulary

Follow-Up
Proactively reminding someone to complete something they haven't submitted yet.
Escalation
Raising an issue to the teacher when it's outside a student's authority to resolve -- a missing consent, or a submitted photo that breaks the photo content policy (any hand gesture other than a peace sign or thumbs-up).

🧰 Materials & Tools

🧠 Do Now (Warm-Up)

Look at the tracking spreadsheet. How many classmates are still missing a senior quote?

📋 Main Workshop / Lesson Sequence

This lesson spans 2 Days. Suggested pacing:

DayFocusPlan
Day 1Follow-Up SprintDo Now (5 min): how many classmates are still missing a quote? Mini-lesson (5 min): how to follow up professionally and kindly. Follow-up sprint (30 min): pairs directly follow up with classmates flagged as missing a quote or baby photo, updating the spreadsheet live. Check-in (5 min).
Day 2Review & EscalateDo Now (5 min). Review (15 min): as a class, review flagged issues (missing consent, or a submitted photo with a hand gesture other than a peace sign/thumbs-up). Escalate (10 min): route issues to the teacher appropriately -- never quietly print a flagged photo, and never quietly reject one without the teacher's sign-off either. Continued follow-up (10 min): keep working the list for any remaining gaps. Celebrate (5 min): recognize any section that reached full coverage.

✅ Assessment & Exit Ticket

Spreadsheet coverage reviewed for completeness; escalations checked for being routed appropriately.

Exit Ticket: What percentage of the class has now submitted both a quote and (if applicable) a baby photo?

📊 Pull up the anonymous Class Check-In for students to fill out before they go.

🧩 Differentiation & Accommodations

English Language Learners: model every step live, then check in one-on-one; provide translated materials and vocabulary support as needed. Students with IEPs: apply the accommodations and modifications listed in each student's plan (examples include extended time, graphic organizers, speech-to-text tools, chunked instructions, and visual schedules). Students with attention-related needs: break tasks into short, checklist-driven steps and provide brief movement or focus breaks. Students ready for a challenge: take on a leadership role critiquing peers' work, extend the project with a second iteration, or research how today's skill is used professionally in the field.
